Quick Count: Purdue practice No. 12

Left tackle Martesse Patterson suffered an injury Monday morning. (GoldandBlack.com)

With rain Monday morning, Purdue moved practice indoors for the first time during training camp.

With another practice scheduled later in the afternoon, the Boilermakers went for about an hour-and-a-half wearing shells inside Mollenkopf.

• During a passing play in a team period midway through practice, starting left tackle Martesse Patterson injured his left knee. The severity of the injury isn't known.

Patterson went down to the ground immediately, and athletic trainers rushed to him. He limped to a table on the sideline and doctors appeared to perform ACL tests on the knee. After which, Patterson got the knee iced. He walked a bit on it afterward, and on the way off the practice field, Coach Darrell Hazell called Patterson over to discuss the injury.

It's likely an update will come in the afternoon when Hazell speaks with reporters after the second practice.

Patterson had taken every rep with the first-team offense at left tackle in camp. After he left practice, Purdue used Jalen Neal, who hasn't practiced at left tackle all camp, at the spot.

• To start practice, Cameron Cermin finally was getting snaps on the right side, something O-line coach Darrell Funk said would happen at some point in camp. Cermin even got first-team snaps there. But with Patterson's injury, it'll be interesting to see what happens with Cermin. He'd gotten the bulk of the second-team left tackle snaps the first nine days.

• The injuries seem to be piling up. Backup defensive end Shayne Henley was in street clothes — usually a sign of a concussion — and backup defensive tackle Anthony Watts visited with trainers toward the end of practice. Cornerback Tim Cason, who complained of a hamstring injury Saturday afternoon, didn't appear to get any reps with the first- or second-string defense.
