Under sunny skies, Purdue had its first morning practice of training camp Saturday, the last of three consecutive before a break on Sunday.

The Boilermakers wore uppers, meaning shoulder pads, for the first time. Following are quick post-practice notes:

• Redshirt freshman defensive back Evyn Cooper is away the Boilermakers for what Darrell Hazell called a "team decision," but his status isn't yet fully decided. Hazell said a phone conversation was set with Cooper to discuss his future. Cooper hasn't been with Purdue for the first three practices and isn't on the official roster.

Keiwan Jones was with the first-team defense Saturday, lining up at nose tackle. The presumed starter there, Eddy Wilson, was with the 2s. In other depth chart news, Gelen Robinson was with the second unit for the first time — he had been a 3 — dropping Tim Faison down to the third team.

• Reserve defensive back Race Johnson leaves for Rio later Saturday, joining the rest of his family to watch brother Steele Johnson compete in the Olympics in the 10-meter platform and 10-meter synchro with David Boudia. Race Johnson says he'll be back in time for Wednesday's practice.
