Quick Count: Purdue practice No. 8

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — With temperatures reaching as high as 92 — and a heat index of 101 — Purdue completed the second half of its two-a-day Thursday afternoon at DePauw.

The Boilermakers went for about an hour-and-a-half in full pads, taking a few breaks for rehydration.

Following are other quick observations:

• Purdue's second-team offense — led by presumed starting QB David Blough — got at least an ounce of redemption in the afternoon practice, when it went 50 yards on two plays for a touchdown to end the day. Blough hit Anthony Mahoungou for 35 then Bilal Marshall, who dragged a foot to stay inbounds, for a 15-yard touchdown.

The defense dominated the offense in Thursday's early session, particularly in the series of third downs.

• Running back Richie Worship participated in individual drills but was held out of team drills for the third consecutive out, after he had been hit in the lower back early on Wednesday. The redshirt freshman will likely be back full soon.

• Purdue's defensive front seems to be having a good camp, particularly Thursday. In team drills — 11 vs. 11 — the Boilermakers totaled seven sacks. More on what Purdue is doing to create some issues for the offense up front in our daily analysis.
