Region shooting guard on Purdue's 2017 recruiting radar

More: Exhibition recap ($)| Purdue 2017 targets

BLOOMINGTON - Purdue just added Spike Albrecht to its roster for this coming season.

It's now looking at another Crown Point High School sharp-shooter for down the line.

Following his 6-of-7 shooting, 15-point shooting in Tuesday night's junior all-stars loss to the Indiana All-Star team at Bloomington South, Sasha Stefanovic said that the Boilermaker coaching staff has been picking up interest in him lately. Its coaches would have seen him play several times in the spring while tracking 2018 target and Eric Gordon All-Stars teammate Romeo Langford.

"They called me yesterday and wanted me to get on campus," Stefanovic said. "I think we're just trying to figure out a date for me to get up in June.

"I went to their camp last year and I don't think there was much interest then, but they said they're definitely interested and want to recruitment going a little more and get me to see the campus some more and meet some of the guys."

The 6-foot-4ish 2-guard said he would be very open to Purdue's interest.

"I've always been a Purdue fan," he said. "That's the team I've always cheered for and I'd love to go there. Hopefully this (interest) keeps up."

Stefanovic's older brother, Dejan, is a student at Purdue, due to graduate soon after he returns from an internship in Chicago.

The younger Stefanovic has already seen recruiting intensify. Among his 21 offers are those from Xavier and DePaul, along with a slew of prominent mid-major programs. Added Big Ten and otherwise high-major interest is picking up, as well, Purdue included.

"It's a good mix of schools," Stefanovic said.

As a junior at Crown Point - which sent Albrecht to Michigan before Purdue and more recently fellow shooter Grant Gelon to Indiana - Stefanovic averaged about 15-and-a-half points per game.

"Coaches like my shooting," he said, "but also they seem to like my IQ and that I think I pride myself on being a team guy and putting my team first."

For more on Stefanovic, see the video interview embedded above and stay tuned in coming days for video from the core junior all-star's performances in both scrimmages.

The junior all-stars play again Thursday night at Lebanon.
