Scotts lead Northrop in second half

FORT WAYNE - Friday, night Fort Wayne Northrop trailed Snider - a team it beat last week 88-67 in the Summit Athletic Conference tournament - at the half, 31-30.

Then, Purdue recruit Bryson Scott stole Snider's in-bound pass to open the second half and laid it in, setting the tone for Northrop's dominant second half en route to a 75-59 win.

"We stopped executing offensively and stopped playing defense in the last couple minutes of the first half," Scott said. "We were playing lethargic. In the second, we wanted to play with a whole bunch of energy and play hard.

"We wanted to pick it up defensively. We were playing pretty laid-back in the last couple minutes of the half and we had to pick it up."

Scott and twin brother Brenton led it.

Bryson Scott's steal to start the second half began a third quarter in which Snider managed just eight points. After scoring seven points in the first half and struggling some from the floor, Scott poured in 11 of Northrop's 21 in the third as the Bruins seized control.

Eighteen of Scott's 25 points came after halftime, as he repeatedly attacked the lane in transition and in the half court against Snider's zone, the sort of defense frequently thrown at him this season.

Scott finished 10-of-19 from the floor after starting approximately 1-for-6. He made the last of his three three-point tries and 4-of-6 foul shots. He grabbed six rebounds and three steals, as Northrop turned 14 Snider turnovers into 20 points.

Brenton Scott, meanwhile, rained jump shots over Snider, making 6-of-10 threes and totaling a game-high 28 points.

Northrop improved to 11-2.

"Snider came out with a lot of intensity and we didn't handle and we lost focus a little bit," Northrop coach Barak Coolman said. "We challenged them a little bit (at half) and the great thing about Bryson and Brenton are they're ultimate competitors. When we tell them they're not getting something done, they're going to respond.

"They came out with a better focus and we really stepped it up on defense."
