Purdue scored a significant commitment Monday, landing Nashville area defensive lineman Drake Carlson following a weekend official visit, the first of a flurry of commitments that could come off the weekend.

"Being on that official visit this weekend really locked it in," Carlson said. "I got a really good feeling from the coaching staff and really fell in love with the campus and all the players."

Carlson, projected to play defensive tackle, chose Purdue over Vanderbilt, Stanford, Tennessee and numerous others. Some schools offered him as an offensive tackle, but he'll be a defensive player all the way for the Boilermakers.

Though he could perhaps play as an edge-setting defensive end, Carlson will be a defensive tackle for Purdue.

"I think I'm a good athlete with a great motor," said Carlson, who was recruited by assistant coaches Mark Hagen and David Elson and hosted this weekend by freshman J.P. Deeter. "I try to hustle on every play, and I think I'm explosive and can really get off the ball."

Carlson is the first defensive lineman to publicly commit to Purdue for the Class of 2023. Purdue also hosted Kentucky's Micah Carter and Saadiq Clements as well this weekend, as well as a few defensive linemen last weekend.
