Texas lineman commits to double duty at Purdue

Texas offensive lineman Jordan Roos committed to Purdue Sunday night over offers from Colorado and Louisville and others.
Roos unofficially visited West Lafayette at the end of July.

"I couldn't see myself going anywhere else," Roos said, "no matter who offered me.
"I just felt like it was time and there was no reason to wait any longer. When you say the word 'Purdue,' everyone knows what it's all about, both academically and athletically. I'm just ready to go there and show what I've got."
Roos held double-digit offers but had his list pretty well narrowed down to his three biggest: Purdue, Colorado and Louisville.
"The coaching staff was great," Roos said of Purdue. "Everybody I met was first-class and told me how it was from the very beginning.
"They were the first big school to offer me. They told me I was No. 1 at the very beginning and ever since. I'm not a backup plan for them like with some other schools. That really stuck out."
Roos was a priority for Purdue football, but also track and field.
The two-time Texas state champion in the shot put is an elite track recruit who'll do both sports as a Boilermaker.
"It's always been my dream and my goal to do both," Roos said last week. "I think if you're given the opportunity and ability to do it, I think it would be a shame not to try."
Roos' commitment is a major one for Purdue, which needs to replenish its offensive line in its 2012 recruiting class after signing only one offensive lineman in its 2011 group of signees.
"The only real negative when I was on my visit was just the distance from where I live," Roos said, "but I thought, 'Why let one little thing get in the way of all the other great things?'"
Purdue now has 12 new known 2012 commitments.
