Two freshmen move

It was only a matter of time before one of Purdue's seven freshman defensive linemen moved to offense.
Sunday, the first domino fell, as Trevor Foy traded in his white jersey for a black one, signifying the switch to offense. The 6-foot-8, 255-pound rookie will play offensive tackle.

"We didn't have to do it this soon," Coach Danny Hope said of a move that was pretty evident would come, "but the sooner the better.
"I really believe he could be a heck of a defensive player the same as I do with (fellow freshmen) Kevin Pamphile and Justin Kitchens, all the tall guys we recruited. ... (Foy) just has the greatest size potential of the bunch. He's 6-7. There aren't many 6-foot-7 defensive linemen in the NFL, but there are a heck of a lot of 6-foot-7 offensive linemen in the NFL. He's a very special line prospect and he'll be a very, very fine offensive lineman. He could be a fine defensive lineman. But right now, we're going to look at him on offense. Right now, we're short-handed at tackle and he's got great potential."
The switch probably didn't surprise Foy, who said earlier in the week that he's been gaining weight since reporting and is nearing 280 pounds.
"In my opinion, I think I'm going to the O-line, just from what I've been told by some players and coaches, just dropping hints and stuff," Foy said Wednesday at Purdue's media day. "Just talking to Coach Hope, I know there's a couple of us who are probably going to switch to offense, but I just don't know yet. Anything can happen."
Foy's move was one of two made Sunday, the other being classmate Kurt Freytag, who was moved from fullback to a tight end/H-back sort of role.
Purdue landed the former Carmel running back as a walk-on after recruiting him until the very end.
"He was a 'tweener in the recruiting process in terms of what position you'd put him at," Hope said. "He's not exactly what you want as a ball-carrying running back, not quite as big as what you're looking for at tight end, but he can do some things for us as a ball-carrier and as a receiver and we're going to work him some as an H-back or at tight end."
More from Sunday
