Weekend recap

Purdue's massive recruiting weekend has come and gone, but the action is only just beginning.
The Boilermakers hosted 16 official visitors during the weekend and netted only one immediate commitment, albeit a big one, as Maryland linebacker Jawhaun Bentley committed Saturday.

But more commitments will come, maybe as early as Monday evening, as defensive tackle Keiwan Jones is scheduled to announce Monday evening between Purdue and Iowa State 24 hours or so after returning from West Lafayette. (UPDATE: Jones committed Monday morning.)
And California defensive Ladarius Wiley may be in position to decide also, he said Sunday.
According to the players themselves, Purdue came out of the weekend leading for defensive backs Brandon Roberts and Juan Jenkins and giving fellow DB Chris Jones much to think about as he chooses between Purdue and his standing South Florida commitment, along with new interest from Wisconsin.
Roberts said he might decide next week, while the others put no definitive timetable on things.
Defensive line target Renell Wren is announcing Wednesday after visiting Purdue this weekend. The Boilermakers are a co-finalist with Arizona State, which Wren said holds the edge right now.
Ohio two-way lineman Martesse Patterson said his official visit to Purdue "exceeded" his expectations, but is nowhere near deciding as he's still planning to visit Illinois and possibly Kentucky and Michigan State in January before deciding closer to signing day.
At tight end, Purdue offered junior college prospect Isaac Ijalana, a potential mid-year signee, this weekend and did not offer high school tight end visitor Cole Herdman, but remains interested. Ijalana, who was committed to Oklahoma, may take one more visit before deciding.
Purdue also brought in already committed players Will Colmery, Tim Cason, Gregory Phillips and Austin McGehee for official visits this weekend, its last official visit weekend until January.
Commit Simmie Cobbs, along with Illinois linebacker/fullback and Western Michigan commitment Robert Spillane were scheduled to visit but will instead do so next month.
Junior college running back De'Chavon Hayes visited Purdue this weekend, but could not be reached for comment Sunday.
