WESTFIELD - Coveted Fort Wayne big man Malik Williams doesn't know who he's committing to yet, but he knows when he's doing it.

The four-star prospect from Snider said Friday night at Elevate Hoops' Terrific 24 event in Westfield that he will commit on his birthday, Aug. 26.

"Right now," Williams said, "that's my plan."

Williams said he would expect to take official visits that month in advance of that target date.

He's already been on the campuses of several of the schools recruiting him.

During the season alone, he attended games, or otherwise made visits to, Purdue, Indiana, Iowa and Michigan State, if not others.

"Going to see the games, and then going down in the locker rooms after the games, that helps with recruiting," Williams said.

The versatile 6-foot-11 big man - versatile in the sense that he can play forward or center and runs and moves well enough to probably fill different roles defensively - holds offers the four Big Ten schools mentioned, along with Illinois, Xavier, Cincinnati, Toledo and others.

"I'm still trying to impress new teams," Williams said, "but making sure too that all the old ones still like my game."

Purdue has been among the several schools that have recruited The Class of 2017 big man for years now.

"They have a nice program," Williams said. "Their coaching staff is cool. And they had a pretty good season this year."
