GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft: Pick No. 22

To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.

GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over the next 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert.

Clardie is up next in the sixth round.

Draft ticker: No. 1-21

After a break from my defensive-heavy draft with the last pick — had to make sure I got one of the elite-level receivers — I'm back to that side of the ball in the sixth round to snatch one of the program's more productive interior lineman, Craig Terrill.

I'm not sure I entered the draft with much strategy, but after not getting either of the top two quarterbacks (my choice on passing on Kyle Orton, obviously), figured it made sense to try to build a defense that'll make it potentially difficult on my colleagues who have those guys.

That starts with a consistent pass rush, and there's no doubt my front line can provide that.

With my Terrill selection, my three starting defensive linemen have a combined 73.5 career sacks, by far the most of any of the other teams in this draft at this point. Terrill is a significant contributor to that load, having 20.5 career sacks among his 35.5 career TFLs.

But it's not just about the pure numbers, either, for Terrill, a second-team All-Big Ten pick in 2003. Terrill's high motor and lunch-pail mentality made him special, too.

Those characteristics fit perfectly with a similarly styled Ryan Kerrigan on the edge.
