Athletic director Mike Bobinski gave first-year coach Jeff Brohm a $3.5-million salary pool for assistant coaches, as well as the option of offering multi-year deals.

Through the eight contracts released by Purdue Wednesday, Brohm utilized $2.75 million of that cap and all are two-year contracts.

Co-defensive coordinator and play-caller Nick Holt's $500,000 annual base salary leads the group, and co-defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter is set to make at least $425,000 annually.

Co-offensive coordinator Brian Brohm, who also coaches QBs, is the offense's highest-paid assistant coach at $400,000. It's possible tight ends coach — and special teams and co-offensive coordinator — Tony Levine, who has head coaching experience, could make a higher salary, but his contract had yet to be signed, according to Purdue.

To round out the offensive staff: receivers coach, passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator JaMarcus Shephard has a $300,000 base, offensive line coach Dale Williams has a $225,000 base and running backs coach Chris Barclay is at $200,000. On defense, cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator Derrick Jackson has a $300,000 base and line coach Reggie Johnson is at $225,000.

All of the coaches have academic- and performance-based incentives in the contracts as well. The highest bonus would be if Purdue makes the College Football Playoffs, which would trigger a 20-percent bonus (based off annual base salary).

There also are clauses in the contract for non-renewal after Dec. 31, 2018 by Purdue — if that happens, the coach gets a termination payment of three months of the annual base salary — and termination instigated by the coach before Jan. 1, 2019 (liquidated damages that equal 20 percent of base salary).

Darrell Hazell's assistants made $2.45 million in 2016, not including Gerad Parker's bonus after being named interim head coach.

In terms of support staff, executive director of operations/chief of staff Greg Brohm will make $215,000, director of internal relations Robert Sampson $80,000 and director of player development Sean Pugh $60,000.

Director of strength and conditioning Justin Lovett's offer letter is for nearly $200,000, while strength coaches Dennis Love and Corey Campbell have salaries of about $60,000 and $40,000.

Dan Rowe was added as defensive quality control in late February and will make about $50,000. Jeff Brohm still wants to add two more quality control positions as well as director of player personnel.
