Day 6 notes: Phillips looking to emerge
After more than a week off for spring break, the Boilermakers resumed practices on Monday afternoon inside Mollenkopf.
Purdue hasn’t been outside yet this spring and maybe they won’t be until the game; it couldn’t have been Monday, after a storm passed through West Lafayette that dropped buckets of water and marble-sized hail.
The Boilermakers were in full pads for their two-and-a-half-hour session. Following are observations:
• Jeff Brohm wasn’t particularly happy with practice, probably because the offense wasn’t sharp, turned the ball over and generally had problems consistently producing positive plays.
The issues aren’t new: Purdue doesn’t have enough playmakers on the perimeter and its offensive line is a work-in-progress. And those things — again — were at the forefront Monday. Examples:
