Following the regular season, GoldandBlack.com spoke with Purdue assistant coaches Greg Gary and Steve Lutz to review the season on offense and defense, respectively.
Here's what Gary, who oversees Purdue's offense, said.
More ($): Steve Lutz on Purdue's defense
GoldandBlack.com: This was a season where the pieces really sort of came together in an interesting matter around Carsen Edwards. What was the starting point?
Gary: I thought as good as Isaac (Haas) was, I thought Matt (Haarms) could move better, and as far as from an offensive standpoint, dribble handoffs, ball screens, dives, the ball was going to be in Carsen’s and Ryan Cline’s hands a lot. We were excited about it just because I thought we could be pretty good offensively just because of those pieces right there where we could move a be a little bit faster and be able to move quicker. That big sucker (Haas) was hard to guard one-on-one and we threw it to him a lot and he helped us win a lot of games, but I think at times it bogged us down and probably some of that is me just going to him too much, but it’s hard not to when he’s shooting 60 percent. But now we could be faster and be quicker.
G&B: Haas and Edwards couldn't be more different as players, but in the attention they both commanded, that seemed to matter a lot in both cases.
