Savion Flagg enjoying big summer after a huge spring

More: Purdue 2017 targets

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Making a climb up the national rankings this spring was Class of 2017 wing Savion Flagg.

The multi-positional 6-foot-6 Flagg is also a target of Purdue's recruiting efforts this spring as they're hoping to pull a quality player out of Texas for the second time in as many recruiting classes.

Flagg, now the No. 61 overall prospect in the Rivals.com national rankings, said that Purdue is still involved for him at this point.

"They've been calling me," Flagg said of Purdue at last week's NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp in Virginia. "Coach Jack Owens has been calling me. A lot of the other assistant coaches have really been getting involved.

"They're a pretty good school. Carsen Edwards is a pretty good friend of mine and he talks to me a lot about it."

Besides Purdue, it is currently a crowded field for Flagg as other schools recruiting him include Creighton, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Louisville, Northwestern, Rice, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Flagg had a chance to see a couple of in-state programs in Rice and Texas A&M this spring, but everything remains open for him.

"Everyone is still in consideration, I really don't have a top five right now," Flagg said."Official visits, I'm planning to cutting down my list after July [to five]."

This spring, Flagg generated a lot of positive attention, as he ranked No. 20 in the Under Armour Association in scoring with the Houston Defenders. In 12 games this spring, Flagg averaged 14.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range.

Because he's multi-positional at the next level, college coaches are intrigued by Flagg's upside.

"(College coaches) just said that I would probably be able to play a lot of big minutes because I don't have one position. I can play a lot of positions so they say that helps a lot," Flagg said. "Whatever they need me to do is what I plan to do. I want to be able to earn my position, I don't want anything given to me."

The NBPA Top 100 Camp was also a successful trip for Flagg as he was one of the event's leading scorers at 12.1 points per game. Flagg also averaged 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor.

"It (was) a great experience. I'm just really humbled by it right now, just really taking it all in. I just feel like all the hard work is paying off right now. And getting out here with all of these really good players is helping me out," Flagg said.
