More: Purdue 2021 commitments | Purdue 2021 offers

As Purdue looks to improve at the line of scrimmage on offense, there won't be a recruiting class any year in which the offensive line isn't important.

This year will obviously be no exception, and for a class that figures to be tackle-oriented after the 2020 signing class was heavy on interior linemen, it starts locally, as Purdue may be positioned to fare well in Indiana in particular.

It would stand to reason to suggest this would be at least a three-lineman class for Purdue, though the Boilermakers aren't due to lose all that much to graduation after this season in terms of numbers on the offensive line.

Here's a look at some of Purdue's apparent top targets on the offensive line at this point.

Alstott-VandeVanter was Purdue's second commitment for the 2021 class, pledging in early January. An athletic sort of tackle who's come of age the past year or two, he was offered by Indiana and Cincinnati, too, but after he'd already committed to the Boilermakers.

The offensive guard — Alstott-VandeVanter's teammate at Mooresville High School south of Indianapolis — is expected to announce his commitment April 24. Purdue was No. 1 for him after his last visit In March. Cincinnati, Illinois and IU round out his list of four.

The Brownsburg offensive tackle has become a national sort of recruit, as Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas are among those who've come into Indiana to offer him, along with the usual local suspects. Purdue seems to have made a strong early impression and he seems to have struck up a bond with Richards and to a lesser extent Alstott-VandeVanter, setting up a potential domino effect for Purdue.

The heavily recruited offensive tackle from Detroit power Cass Tech lists Purdue, West Virginia, Pitt, LSU, Vanderbilt, Iowa State and Arkansas as his favorites. He visited Purdue during the season.

Rankl visited Purdue in March for its junior day. Pitt, Vanderbilt, Duke and Arizona State are some of his other options at this point.

Dueweke was offered by Purdue this fall and has visited at least twice since. The guard prospect has MAC offers, but Michigan State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Penn State have been talking to him this spring.

Hess was offered by Purdue this spring, around the time the extended dead period took hold.

Mbow has been a very heavily recruited player who Purdue has been on from very early in the process.

The towering offensive tackle from Alabama visited Purdue in March. Florida State is among the many who've offered.

Morton was offered by Purdue this spring, around the time the extended dead period took hold.

Boone was just offered by Purdue in early April.

The highly recruited tackle from talent-rich Westlake in Atlanta was offered in April.
