Kory Taylor had offers, even Power 5 ones, to play football collegiately.

But he just didn’t feel right about any of them.

So about three months ago, when Purdue receiver coach JaMarcus Shephard followed Taylor on Twitter, Taylor followed back. Then Taylor sent Shephard a DM and got the coach his game film.

Then, Taylor attended the Indiana game in late November. By mid-December, he was on campus for an official visit. Less than a week later, he signed a letter to officially play for Purdue in 2018.

A quick process, for sure. But one that could be so because Taylor had found what he was looking for: A school with a considerable academic reputation — that’s why he was looking at the Ivy League prior to Purdue’s offer — and one with a too-good-to-be-true offense for an outside receiver intent on being a deep threat.

“Honestly, academics have always been a big part of my life,” Taylor said. “I got a 30 on my ACT, so I knew, going in, I was trying to find a college that would have a good mixture of both, athletics and academics. So Purdue was just the perfect fit for me.”
