Boilermakers take sole possession of Big Ten lead into final three games

With Ohio State's 83-73 win over Wisconsin in Columbus Thursday night, Purdue goes into its final three games of the regular season with sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.

Less than a week ago, the Boilermakers shared the Big Ten lead with both Wisconsin and Maryland, but the Terrapins have since lost to Wisconsin and Minnesota and the Badgers fell a game back of the Boilermakers with the loss to the Buckeyes.

Purdue, which has won its last six games, plays at Michigan Saturday, then hosts Indiana Tuesday before finishing up at Northwestern next weekend.

Wisconsin's loss in Columbus coupled with a Purdue win in Ann Arbor would set up a situation where the Boilermakers could clinch a share of the Big Ten title with a win over the reeling Hoosiers Tuesday on senior night.

It's been quite a turn for Purdue, which sat at just 8-3 in the the conference, two games behind Wisconsin, after a loss at Nebraska on Jan. 29.

But the Boilermakers have won every game since and now head to Michigan with a 5-1 record against teams with winning Big Ten records now.

Purdue is seeking its first Big Ten regular season championship since it shared the crown in 2010.
