Five of the six assistant coaches Jeff Brohm added to his first Purdue staff Monday coached under him at Western Kentucky.

Brian Brohm, Tony Levine, Nick Holt, Reggie Johnson and Dale Williams come to the Boilermakers from WKU and Anthony Poindexter joins Purdue's staff after spending three seasons as Connecticut's defensive coordinator.

Purdue also announced two support staff members, Greg Brohm and Robert Sampson, both of whom also were with Jeff Brohm at Western Kentucky.

The release from Purdue did not include designations for any of the assistant coaches.

At Western Kentucky, Brian Brohm was quarterbacks coach and a co-coordinator; Dale Williams was O-line coach; Tony Levine was tight ends coach, special teams coordinator and co-offensive coordinator; Nick Holt was defensive coordinator and linebackers coach; and Johnson was defensive ends coach. It's possible they could take those roles at Purdue.

Poindexter also coached the secondary while at UConn.

Jeff Brohm had previously added JaMarcus Shephard to the staff, presumably to coach receivers, though that also has not been announced.

Purdue will have nine assistant coaches, leaving potentially a running backs coach opening as well as another spot.

Brian Brohm

Brohm has coached for only one season, in 2016, after finishing an eight-year professional career as a quarterback.

He helped guide first-year Western Kentucky starter Mike White to a stellar season. White passed for 4,363 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Nick Holt

Holt was WKU's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for three seasons. The Hilltoppers improved their scoring defense from 121st nationally in 2014 (39.9) to 41st in 2016 (24.6), their total defense from 120th (509.9) to 41st (376.6) and their rushing defense from 111th (220.8) to third (97.2) among FBS schools. In his first season at WKU, the Hilltoppers ranked 15th nationally in total defense (339.2) and 10th in passing defense (177.9).

Holt also has been the coordinator at USC, Washington and Idaho.

Reggie Johnson

Western Kentucky's four primary defensive ends had 98 tackles, including 22 for loss and 11 sacks, with six pass breakups, two fumbles recovered and an interception in 2016 under Johnson.

Tony Levine

Levine, a former head coach at Houston, helped the Hilltoppers' special teams rank among the nation's best in kickoff (28.6 pr) and punt return (17.9 pr). Kylen Towner averaged an NCAA-record 40.3 yards per return.

Levine also spent two seasons in the NFL as an assistant special teams coach with the Panthers. Over his collegiate career, he's also coached receivers, tight ends and linebackers.

Anthony Poindexter

Poindexter's coaching career has been limited to two stops: His most recent as UConn's DC and 12 seasons at Virginia, where he was an All-American safety.

In 2016, Poindexter coached all-conference safety Obi Melifonwu, who had a team-high 118 tackles and four interceptions.

In 2015, Poindexter's defense was 15th in scoring (19.5) and 33rd in total defense (355.1).

Dale Williams

Williams was at WKU for only one season as O-line coach but spent a previous season coaching with Jeff Brohm at Florida Atlantic.

Williams also has coached at Findlay, Gardner-Webb, North Greenville College and West Virginia.

Coaching WKU's O-line this season, the Hilltoppers allowed only 22 sacks on 471 passing attempts. Left tackle Forrest Lamp was an All-American.
