From Purdue: Matt Painter comments

Behind 25 points from freshman Carsen Edwards and another dominant game from Caleb Swanigan, Purdue improved to 3-0 during its exhibition tour in Spain with a 96-72 win over Barcelona All-Stars Sunday.

After leading just two at halftime, Purdue outscored its opponent 31-7 in the third quarter to decide the outcome.

It was again Purdue's freshman guard that stood out.

Edwards' 25 points came on 8-of-9 shooting, 3-of-3 from three-point range.

Recruited as a point guard, he's playing mostly away from the ball, alongside either P.J. Thompson or Spike Albrecht.

"I think it's the first game where he's put two good halves together," Coach Matt Painter said in a post-game interview provided by Purdue. "He's been good in the first halves of all three games so far, but in the second half of the first two games, he didn't play as well. Today he put a full game together and was really good."

Swanigan, who's dominated during the three games overseas thus far, finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and one broken backboard, cracking it on a third-quarter dunk, according to Purdue.

Isaac Haas added 19 points for the Boilermakers.

"Isaac set the tone for us early," Purdue associate head coach Jack Owens said. "We were able to establish him deep in the post and he produced."

Carsen Edwards, Swanigan and Haas combined for 64 of Purdue's 96 points, with no other Boilermaker scoring more than six or making more than two field goals.

Haas and Swanigan total 39 points on 15-of-28 shooting.

"Whenever we got the ball to them," Painter said, "something good happened."

Barcelona shot less than 34 percent from the floor.

"Our defense was good," Owens said, "from the standpoint that we were able to keep guys in front of us and make them score over the top."

Purdue outrebounded Barcelona 53-31 and made 22-of-26 at the foul line in what was a complete performance for the Boilermakers.

"The whole game," Painter said, "we were in sync."
