More ($): Purdue 2017 targets | Stefanovic update from June

Purdue will have to replace its current stockpile of shooters in coming recruiting classes, with Crown Point's Sasha Stefanovic being a potential target to do so in the Class of 2017.

The 6-foot-5 Rivals.com three-star prospect has been to West Lafayette numerous times - he's attended Purdue's elite camp the past two years, on top of the fact his brother's been a student at the school - but Monday marked his first recruiting-minded visit.

Stefanovic came onto Purdue's radar this spring as its coaches tracked grassroots teammate Romeo Langford.

That interest will continue.

"They just expressed their interest in me," Stefanovic said of the Purdue visit, "and they said they'll take it from there and evaluate me in July."

Stefanovic has more than 20 offers, including Xavier and DePaul, with continued interest from several Big Ten schools. He visited Michigan last week and was told by the Wolverine staff, too, that he'll be watched during next month's live periods.

He'll visit Wisconsin for a camp and Northwestern for an unofficial visit later this month, too, he said.

Any Big Ten offer would likely be an impactful one, but Purdue might be especially so should one come through. Stefanovic has said he grew up a "fan" of the Boilermakers.

Stefanovic does fit the profile of some players Purdue's been quick to recruit in recent classes, like Dakota Mathias and Ryan Cline, but others, as well.

"Coach (Matt Painter) said he's interested in me because of the way I move without the ball and my shooting on the move," Stefanovic said. "Me and him and Coach (Jack) Owens and my family sat down and watched some film of some players he'd compare me to that way - D.J. Byrd, Ryne Smith, (David) Teague - and pointed out some similarities."

As a junior, Stefanovic averaged better than 15 points for Crown Point, the same high school new Purdue senior Spike Albrecht attended before attending Michigan, then moving on to the Boilermakers as a grad transfer.

This summer, Stefanovic was named to the six-man group of core Indiana junior all-stars.
