Early-enrolling wide receiver picks Purdue

More: Purdue 2017 commitments

Three-star wide recceiver D'Jaundrae Edwards has committed to Purdue and will early enroll.

He chose Purdue over North Carolina and Houston and fielded a slew of other P5 offers through the course of the recruiting process.

"I know they're down right now, but I like where they'r e going and I like Coach (Jeff) Brohm," Edwards said Friday night, before committing the next day. "I've done my research and I know he's like an offensive genius. I know they put a lot of points on the board and I could definitely seen him coming to Purdue and turning it around."

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver from Palm Beach Lakes High School in West Palm Beach was made a priority by head coach Jeff Brohm and wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard the past few weeks.

Edwards unofficially visited Purdue last spring and was recruited extensively by its former staff, but he wasn't particularly interested in the Boilermakers prior to Brohm's hiring, he said. Almost immediately after being hired, Shephard visited Florida in December to recruit Edwards, whose wide receivers coach at Lakes is former Boilermaker star Vinny Sutherland.

Edwards joins fellow wide receiver Tyler Hamilton and offensive lineman Jalen Jackson as early-enrolling high schools players. Purdue has already signed junior college players T.J. Jallow (defensive back), Kai Higgins (defensive end) and Ethan Smart (offensive tackle).

Purdue's need at wide receiver is particularly acute given that it graduates its top four players at the position.
