Emerging cornerback hoping for Purdue, Big Ten offers

Darrick Forrest might be right on the cusp of Big Ten offers.
At least he hopes so.
The 6-foot, nearly 180-pound cornerback from Walnut Ridge High School in Columbus attended Purdue's Friday Night Lights camp this past weekend hoping to add the Boilermakers to a list of offers that currently includes Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green, Ball State and others.
"Coming into high school, that was my first letter," Forrest said of Purdue prior to the camp. "And ever since then, I've gotten a lot of letters and stayed in touch with Coach (Marcus) Freeman. He hits me up a lot, and they've been waiting for me to get up to (camp) to evaluate me."
Friday was Forrest's third visit to Purdue. He attended a camp last summer, then a game in the fall.
Whether it's Purdue or someone else, it seems as if Forrest is on his way toward Big Ten, or similar, opportunities.
On top of the Boilermakers, he's being recruited by Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana and Iowa State, among others, he said.
"After Sound Mind Sound Body," Forrest said of the combine in Detroit where he earned some notice, "there were a lot of coaches there, a lot of Big Ten coaches and some coaches from out west. It was great exposure for me."
Coaches covet size in true cornerback recruits and that might be Forrest's most important attribute.
"I'm a long, 6-foot corner and I can run a 4.5 40 and can absolutely play man-to-man," he said. "I think I'm a freak athlete."
Should such things lead to the right offer this summer, Forrest could come off the board quickly, he said.
"I've seen a lot of colleges," he said, "and I think I know what I want.
"I need a college where I can get good academics and have a good career and have a good relationship with the coaches."
