This summer, the Boilermakers are being divided.

Reporters Stacy Clardie and Kyle Charters are going head-to-head in GoldandBlack.com's Purdue player draft, a daily selection in which separate rosters of 25 are being assembled. In late July, we'll decide — based on GoldandBlack.com staff and member feedback — which team would win.

We're speeding up the final week of selections, doubling up to offer picks from Clardie and Charters each day before No. 50 on Friday. Next week, GoldandBlack.com staff and members will chime in on the finalized rosters.

Here are Clardie's No. 47 selection and Charters' No. 48:

Clardie's pick: No. 47 overall

This is my last freebie pick — my final starting O-lineman, whoever that will be, will be my last one overall — and I'm going way outside the box. Why not? I'm drafting a team that will never actually play together nor gain any kind of points for a season-type fantasy system.

So … hey, Tim Faison, want to play some stand-up end for me in pass-rush situations? I know you’ve moved to end from linebacker officially now, but I really loved watching you play as a Wisconsin linebacker on Purdue’s scout defense last season. Your quickness was evident, seemed like you had a good get-off, and I loved the motor. Think you could do that again? Kinda simulate that same thing to totally confuse Kyle’s still-TBD center so he can’t call the right protection? And, hey, man, though I know you’re learning how to do it now, there are no worries here — you won’t have to put your hand down at all. Just want you to stand, use your speed and athleticism and chase down the QB. I think you'll be a nice change-of-pace option for my D.

Charters' pick: No. 48 overall

It would have taken me at least 10 guesses to land on Tim Faison as Stacy's second-to-last pick.

He's that off the radar, considering he was buried at linebacker and hasn't yet even taken a practice snap at defensive end.

My guy isn't as much of an unknown. I need an outside receiver and feel that I'm getting great value with Jarrett Burgess at No. 48. The sophomore, a former minor league baseball player, has a ton of potential, and in only a year has already made significant progress toward turning himself into a football player. He's got the tools — a physically developed athlete from his years in the minors with incredible speed — but needs refinement. He's got to learn how to catch consistently and then hold on to it, the latter as big a problem as the former. But he's getting there. If he does fully, then he could be really, really good. Yes, I believe that.

Of course, he might not fully grasp the nuances of the position and be only what he is now, a guy who can take some end arounds and see if his speed can get him to the edge and down the field. But even if that's it, he can be a niche weapon.

Oh, I can tell you this: If we play tomorrow, I'm not throwing him a slant on a critical third-and-five inside the redzone. Duh.
