To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.
GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert, who finishes this thing up now with the 100th pick.
Draft ticker: Nos. 1-99
It's a testament to the volume of outstanding defensive linemen Purdue's had over the years that Alex Magee goes No. 100 in our draft.
While he was never as productive as some of the other higher-end D-linemen who came through West Lafayette over the span of these two decades, he was as talented as most, physically gifted enough to get on the field as a true freshman and versatile enough to play inside or on the edge as a 270-plus-pound defensive end.
That's what I like with this pick.
There's no more important position to have depth at than the defensive line, so I've used my discretionary picks here at the end on Ryan Baker and Magee, so that when it comes time to play these fake games, my fake team can substitute freely up front and be fake fresh when the fake fourth quarter rolls around. Magee's value is increased by his ability to play all over the defensive line.
