GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft: Pick No. 42

To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.

GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert.

Clardie sticks with offense for Pick No. 42.

About time to select an offensive tackle, considering there have been a handful swiped already and I probably need to bolster my O-line a bit.

And may as well take another guy who liked to play nasty up front — so I'm going with a mammoth of a man, 6-foot-8, 320-pound Kelly Butler, who said once he loved playing the position because of the physicality required and the "meanness" and "dirtiness" of it. That'll work for me, solidifying the right side of my line with a couple tough dudes.

After redshirting his first season, Butler became a staple on Purdue's offensive line for the next three seasons, starting every game, 37 consecutive. Instead of returning for his senior season in 2004, though, Kelly left for the NFL and got drafted.

But a three-year, full-time starter who played with an attitude at a key spot on my line in the 11th round? I'll take it.
