To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.
GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert.
Neubert continues running rougshod over his colleagues with Pick No. 56.
Draft ticker: Nos. 1-55
I want speed all over my defense and size on the boundaries and as with my prior pick, Antwuan Rogers, this pick gives me what I'm looking for.
Josh Johnson isn't 6-foot-2, but he's a solid 5-10, 5-11, with strength, athleticism and length enough to make him effectively 6-foot-plus.
He may never have gotten the credit he deserved — I'm saying that a lot during this series — because of Ricardo Allen's presence opposite him, but Johnson was a really good player at Purdue and his physical gifts have been validated by the fact he's kept a foot in NFL circles for a few years now.
My corner spots are now full. Rogers and Johnson make for a nice combo and safety net for a fake defensive front that should create some real fake havoc in this theoretical exercise.
