To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.
GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert.
Karpick bolsters his all-star team with an offensive line selection with his first pick of the 15th round.
Draft ticker: Nos. 1-56
My offensive line is about finished, and it is about as tough a group as I could have imagined getting with the addition of Uche Nwaneri. Nwaneri was a starter in 2004 and 2006 and controversially missed the 2005 season due to a punching incident that passed muster (in terms of the suspension issue) with the coaching staff, but didn't with the University.
The Garland, Texas, native came to Purdue in 2002 as a defensive tackle and was moved to offensive guard in his first year as a Boilermaker. Nwaneri got better each year and surprised some folks by playing eight years in the NFL after being a fifth-round pick. He did more than play — he started in 92 of the 104 games he appeared in.
My lunch-pail line of Chukky Okobi, Nwaneri, Mark Fischer and Matt Light has the size and skill to deal with any front my colleagues put up against me. I really like this pick, can't you tell?
