To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.

GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert.

Neubert continues running rougshod over his colleagues with Pick No. 64.

Big plays, man.

That's what I'm building my offense toward, and DeAngelo Yancey fits right in as a nice complement to Dorien Bryant and John Standeford as my wide receivers.

There were some consistency blips, for sure, but not so many that you can't point to the wide receiver as one of the shiniest bright spots for a Purdue offense — and team — that had, shall we say, issues during his four years in the program.

And context matters: Yancey came through the program in a time of great tumult, playing for offenses that struggled. By my unofficial count, he caught passes from, and please don't hold me to this number, 27 different starting quarterbacks. (It was actually four in as many years.)

Had Yancey come along during the golden years of Purdue's chuckery in the passing game or simply had more normalcy/effectiveness around him in the years he played, who knows what he'd have been capable of?

I now not only have all kinds of speed at the skill positions on offense, but in Yancey and Standeford, I have size, too, two players who can go up and get contested balls down the field.
