To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.
GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert.
Neubert continues assembling a formidable crew with Pick No. 80.
Draft ticker: Nos. 1-79
There may not have been a Purdue ever in the past 20 years that filled out a uniform or did badder things to the eyeball test than did tight end Charles Davis.
He was all of 6-foot-6, north of 250 pounds, but athletic to the point it belied those measurables.
And he was a good player, a guy who may not have put the gaudy numbers of Tim Stratton before him or Dustin Keller after, but was reliable and productive when needed to be.
And he had a certain magnetism about him, a charismatic and happy personality, part of the reason he was so popular when he joined the basketball team for half a season. Not that his personality has much to do him being a good fake-team addition, but just saying.
Could have waited on this position and come up with a good and easily forgotten about player like Jon Blackman, but I'm running out of needs, so wanted to get the best guy left on the board while he was still on said board.
