To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.
GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert.
Charters finishes off his offensive line.
Draft ticker: Nos. 1-82
This pick is an easy one.
I need a left guard, as does Brian, and I think there's one who is a cut above the rest. And that's recently-departed Jason King, so he's my pick at No. 83.
King's bio reads like this:
2016: Started 12 games at left guard.
2015: Started 11 games at left guard.
2014: Started 12 games at left guard.
2013: Started five games at left guard.
King has the experience and he's good. The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder is an excellent athlete — he's able to dunk a basketball — and can get out on the move. Considering I picked my guards later in the draft, I couldn't be happier with King and Rob Turner.
The Arkansas native was solid from early on, when he emerged as a contributor, and eventual starter, as a redshirt freshman. And from then on, he barely left the field. He was steady, with a mean streak too, a necessary trait of a good offensive lineman.
