Immediately after landing offer, Aidan Robbins books OV to Purdue

Purdue's years of interest in Louisville's Aidan Robbins resulted this weekend in a long-awaited offer and carved out a slot for the Boilermakers' on the athlete's spring official visit schedule.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound running back/linebacker will be in West Lafayette the weekend of June 1, as Purdue hosts its first wave of newly permitted spring official visits.

"I've been to campus twice — their game against Michigan this year and I went to their junior day as a sophomore," Robbins said. "I'm just ecstatic to get up there and be around the coaches more and the team itself and see the campus more.

"Purdue's a great place."

Though Robbins was only now offered by Purdue, he brings into this process a thorough understanding of the people involved. Purdue's been recruiting him since its new Louisville-flavored staff arrived, and he knows head coach Jeff Brohm and assistants Nick Holt and Chris Barclay well, he said.

"It means a lot that they offered," Robbins said. "It's kind of like a hometown offer because of their staff and where everyone originated from. It's a pretty big offer for me.

"They've been to my school multiple times, talked to my coaches, talked to my teachers, and I feel like they know me as a person and not just a player."

Robbins has already officially visited Vanderbilt. He has trips on the books to Missouri (June 8-10) and Kentucky (June 22-24) on his way to committing prior to his senior season. He did say, though, he may hold his fifth visit for Stanford, which isn't hosting summer official visits, after the season.

In addition to those who've offered him, Robbins said he continues to field varying levels of interest from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida State and others.

Most of his scholarship offers have come for running back, but Purdue is among those recruiting him as an athlete, with the linebacker possibility being on the table.

"I fit in anyone's scheme," Robbins said. "I think I'm a rare package — intelligent, fast, big and strong and I don't think it's something you see a lot, especially at my size with the times I run in track and things like that."

Robbins said he is on track to graduate from Manual High School in December so he can enroll in college in January.

"It's definitely the best thing to do," he said. "The opportunity's there, so why not do it?"
