Indy DB 'loves' Purdue visit

Purdue has recruited Ben Davis defensive back Elijah Ball like a priority since the outset of this 2018 recruiting cycle.

When he left campus Saturday following a three-hour unofficial visit, Purdue hoped he felt like one.

"I loved it. It was a great trip. I wasn't going to go at first," Ball said, referring to the late start he got leaving Indianapolis in the morning, "but I'm happy I did. It was very nice.

"Right now, I could see myself at Purdue, definitely. I liked it a lot. It was a great visit."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound DB met with Purdue's coaches and took a tour of campus during the trip.

"They told me anything's possible if you work hard and commit to the process," Ball said. "They basically said, 'We have a process going here and we feel like you can be a big part of the process if you come here and work hard.' I understand they have a rebuilding job with the new coaching staff, but I feel like they know what they want."

The Rivals.com three-star prospect met with both cornerbacks coach Derrick Jackson and safeties coach Anthony Poindexter, his primary recruiting contact for the Boilermakers.

"They said I have length and size and I'm very versatile, that I can do whatever they need me to do," Ball said. "They say my build is like a safety and that I can play safety, but I have corner attributes. Wherever they'd need me to do, I can do."

Purdue is one of the six early offers Ball has fielded, joining Northern Illinois, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio. Notre Dame, Iowa, Louisville and Illinois are among others interested, he said.

He'll visit many of these schools to weeks and months to come, he said.

"I really don't have (a plan for recruiting) right now," Ball said. "For me, it's just the environment of where I am. I don't want to go somewhere and miss home. I'm just waiting."
