JaJuan Johnson committed to the Boilermakers Monday over Xavier. He'd also fielded scholarship offers from Indiana, Cincinnati, Wake Forest and Marquette, among others.
Indianapolis Franklin Central big man Johnson said his decision came down to Purdue and Xavier, with Butler also drawing consideration.
"I felt the most comfortable with Purdue," Johnson said Monday afternoon. "I fit well with the players and the team."
The 6-foot-10, 200-pound Johnson represents one of the highest-touted recruits Purdue's landed in recent years.
He's rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and ranked No. 85 among all players nationally. Rivals.com also rates him as the nation's sixth-best center.
Johnson's made numerous unofficial visits to campus in the past year, the most recent of which occurred on Friday.
"I kind of knew what I was going to do before then," Johnson said, "but the visit sealed it."
Now that he's in the fold, Johnson said he'll try to help Purdue reel in other in-state prospects. As a part of the Indiana junior all-star team the past two weeks, he spent time around fellow targets Robbie Hummel, Scott Martin and E'twaun Moore and he's an AAU teammate of Matt Howard. Each have also been offered scholarships by the Boilermaker coaches.
"I think a lot of them will come to Purdue, too," Johnson said. "It'd be a good fit."
Purdue has four scholarships to give for its Class of 2007.
