Junior college wide receiver commits to Boilermakers

Purdue added an important piece to its 2017 class Friday evening when junior college wide receiver Isaac Zico announced he's committed to the Boilermakers.

"It was the atmosphere on the campus when I was there, and the coaching staff, because I had a good relationship with them when they were at Western Kentucky and Coach (JaMarcus) Shephard when he was at Washington State," Zico said. "Talking with all of them and then making the visit, I just came up with the decision to go there."

The Georgia Military College receiver chose Purdue over Washington State, West Virginia and others and joins Coffeyville (Kansas) C.C. receiver Terry Wright as Purdue's two junior college targets at a position where the depth chart is essentially wiped out.

That means opportunity.

As new coach Jeff Brohm brings his extremely wide receiver-friendly offense to Purdue at the exact moment it finds itself with few proven wide receivers returning, it is an ideal set-up for any incoming receiver, but particularly those from junior college.

"Coming in, I should be able to make a big impact my first year," Zico said. "If I stay healthy and have a good summer at Purdue, then the season should speak for itself. I plan on having a great season."

As a sophomore at Georgia Miliary, Zico was named an All-American after catching 46 passes for 938 yards and 15 scores.

"I'm explosive," Zico said. "They can expect me to come in and make a big (impact) when I first get to campus."
