Purdue landed Kentucky offensive tackle Will Bramel Wednesday afternoon, bringing its surging commitment total to a dozen.

"Purdue's been on the top of my list for a while," Bramel said, "but (recently) I've gone on a lot of visits and gone to a bunch of camps just for evaluation and to see what else is out there. I finished up with my last camp on Sunday and just didn't think there was anything else for me to see.

"I felt comfortable picking Purdue, because it feels like the right fit for me and my family."

The 6-foot-6, 270-plus-pound tackle from Boyle County in Danville, Ky., held double-digit offers, including Memphis, Marshall, Toledo, Ohio and other MAC schools, academies Air Force and Army, Georgia State and others. Virginia was among P5 schools showing interest, along with in-state programs Louisville and Kentucky, each of which he visited in the spring.

He just attended camps at Cincinnati, Louisville and Virginia during the weekend.

"Compared to everybody else, Purdue felt like home as soon as I set foot on campus in February," Bramel said, referring to a junior day visit in the winter. "That was the biggest thing for me because I'm going to be away from home and want to make sure I feel as close to home as I can, like I'm with family, and Purdue felt like home and family.

"Obviously football is on the rise there with the new facilities and coaching staff. I love the coaching staff. And academically is solid, too. Those were the three things I factored in and Purdue has them all."

Bramel was one of Purdue's first offensive line offers for the 2018 class, as its coaches leveraged their pre-existing familiarity with Bramel, who they began recruiting at Western Kentucky.

"The offense at Purdue is different," Bramel said. "They preached a need to have offensive linemen who can move and make blocks in space and I feel that's my best asset, my feet for an offensive tackle. The weight will come, but my biggest asset is my feet."

He joins offensive lineman Charles Allen and defensive backs Cory Trice and Kadin Smith as Purdue's early commitments from Jeff Brohm's native Kentucky. He joins Allen and Ohio's Eric Miller as Purdue's offensive line commitments.
