More ($): Lovett eager to see payoff from post-spring combine
After evaluating Purdue players over the winter and spring, director of strength and conditioning Justin Lovett and his staff designed a specific program to target the Boilermakers' biggest deficits ASAP.
The priority: Multi-directional speed.
The program is what Lovett called drastically different from any he'd assembled previously, but it was simply necessary to adapt after seeing the roster makeup and speaking with first-year coach Jeff Brohm, Lovett said.
Though the emphasis needed was evident after watching 15 spring practices, it was confirmed during the post-spring combine. The results from that combine “exposed” some players, were a reality check for many others and armed the coaches and strength staff with tangible proof of where the team needed to make gains. Though Lovett said strides need to be made everywhere — speed, agility, quickness, strength and power, “really, the whole gamut” — there’s a clear focus to start the summer program on Monday.
