Analysis ($): Marvin Grant's commitment

Purely from a rankings perspective, Purdue's never started this well in recruiting.

Detroit King safety Marvin Grant's Friday commitment to the Boilermakers gave them their third Rivals.com four-star pledge out of five, joining D-end George Karlaftis and wide receiver Mershawn Rice.

All this before the cycle even reached the weekend, in which both summer official visits and camps will begin.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Grant chose Purdue over offers from Kentucky, Iowa State, Missouri, Pitt and others. Michigan and Notre Dame had reportedly offered him earlier in his high school career.

His commitment serves as validation of the significant effort Purdue, led by assistant coach Derrick Jackson, has put into Detroit, where the Boilermaker program has also targeted Cass Tech's Jalen Graham to play safety alongside Grant.
