Michigan offensive lineman jumps on Purdue, too

More: Purdue commitments

Michigan offensive lineman Spencer Holstege became the third offensive lineman to immediately accept a Purdue post-camp offer Friday when he announced his commitment to the Boilermakers.

"Coach (Jeff) Brohm called me last night and he offered me," Holstege said. "I committed right there."

Purdue's third commitment reveal Friday morning alone, the 6-foot-5, 275-pound tackle from Grand Rapids South Christian stood out at camp Monday, earned the offer and committed to the Boilermakers over offers from much of the Mid-American Conference and continued interest from Indiana, among others.

"I like the energy the coaches have and I haven't seen that at any other school that I've visited," Holstege said. "And their facilities are top-notch, and the academics are, too."

Holstege said he expects to play guard at Purdue.

"I think they really liked my athleticism and that I can move as a big guy," Holstege said. "And then also my aggressiveness in the one-on-ones."

The athleticism may have stood out for a reason.

Holstege said he's played just one season at offensive tackle after previously playing primarily tight end.

"I think I move very well and can pull pretty easily," Holstege said, "and get up to the second level."

That limited background as an offensive lineman would seem to suggest ample potential.

"I'm a sponge at this point, learning a lot of new techniques and everything," he said. "I feel like I have a lot of up-side."

He'll get an early start on capitalizing on it, too, as an anticipated mid-year enrollee.

Holstege joins Illinois' Dave Monnot and Ohio's Cam Craig as Purdue's three offensive line commits, all of them offered following strong camp showings, and all of them accepting those offers immediately.

Purdue now stands at 10 commitments heading into a weekend during which it is expected to host upwards of 20 recruits for either official or unofficial visits.
