More on Joe Tiller's health
In recent months, Joe Tiller’s health has taken a turn, with one of his former Purdue assistants Wednesday asked for prayers for his former boss.
Tiller’s health is one of the reasons why several Boilermakers visited his Buffalo, Wy., home earlier this month as part of a 50th-wedding anniversary celebration with he and his wife, Arnette. Out of a request by the family, many had kept Tiller’s condition quiet in recent weeks. But Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin, who was an assistant under Tiller at Purdue (1998-2000) and played for him while a Boilermaker linebacker, spoke about Tiller's health publicly at the SEC media days Wednesday.
Several pictures of Tiller emerged in early July after a weekend of visits from several Boilermakers, including Drew Brees, Dustin Keller, Travis Dorsch, Chris Clopton, Jim Chaney and others.
Tiller's wife Arnette emailed Purdue officials Tuesday about how great the weekend was and that they are hoping to make it back to Indiana in the fall when their son’s wife gives birth. At least once a season since his retirement in 2009, Tiller has attended a Purdue game.
Tiller, who will be 75 on Dec. 7, is the winningest coach in Purdue history, having earned 87 from 1997 to 2008. He took Purdue to the 2001 Rose Bowl, the second trip to Pasadena in program history.
