No position on defense is under more scrutiny than the linebacking unit as Purdue shifts to a 3-4 base defense under new coordinator Bob Diaco.

There is a lack of proven ability, which is worrisome. The 3-4 defense features two inside linebackers and two on the outside. Inside, Purdue will have a “Mike” and a “Will.” The “Mike” lines up on the strong side of the field, while the “Will” is on the weak side.
