Purdue offers Ohio shooting guard

One of Purdue's first July offers went out to one of its longest-standing targets.

Ohio shooting guard Justin Ahrens was offered by the Boilermaker coaching staff Monday, a few months after he backed away from a commitment to Ohio State following Thad Matta's late firing.

Purdue had recruited Ahrens seriously prior to his early commitment ti the Buckeyes, but had yet to get to the offer stage.

It did just that this week.

"Purdue is a great college and obviously they have great coaching staff and players and they know what it takes to win," Ahrens said Monday night. "I plan on getting to campus when I can."

Since re-opening, Ahrens has fielded offers from Xavier, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M and several others, in addition to being re-offered by Ohio State's new coaching staff.

The 6-foot-6ish shooting guard from Versailles, Ohio, is ranked No. 136 nationally by Rivals.com.
