Quick Count: Purdue practice No. 14

LISTEN: "The Point After" ($)

Purdue was outside Tuesday, taking the Bimel practice field shortly after rain had stopped in West Lafayette.

With only one session, sandwiched between a couple two-a-days, the Boilermakers practiced for more than two hours.

Following are observations:

• Left tackle Martesse Patterson says he expects to be available on Wednesday, after being out since the Monday morning practice with an injured left knee. The sophomore says he was initially scared for worse, partly because he had never before stumbled to the turf in such an awkward fashion.

But the knee is only a tweak, Patterson says, with lingering no damage. He was in shells Tuesday, but not active, spending his time working out in "The Pit."

J.D. Dellinger hit a 49-yard end-of-half field goal during a team drill, his longest of training camp. It came after the defense tried to ice him with a timeout. The freshman had hit a 48-yarder during the kick scrimmage on Saturday.

• Cornerback Kamal Hardy left practice early with an injury, spending much of team practice off to the side. It didn't appear to be severe. He's in a three-way battle with Tim Cason and Myles Norwood for the open cornerback spot.
