Day 2 of Purdue training camp Friday afternoon was cooler with mostly cloudy skies, but Coach Darrell Hazell also tried to help players by spending the bulk of time on the grass practice field at Bimel instead of the FieldTurf. A couple quick impressions:

• After struggling a bit on the opening day, the passing game looked crisper on Day 2. The QBs didn't throw any interceptions, and there were only a couple drops by WRs after an unofficial six on the first day.

• The offensive line needs to gain more cohesion quickly, though OC Terry Malone says it's hard to gauge that unit without shoulder pads. Purdue's first two practices have been in "underwear." On Friday, Purdue kept the same rotation at right tackle, working Matt McCann with the 1s and Jalen Neal with the 2s, while Cameron Cermin stayed as the backup left tackle to Martesse Patterson and also getting some center snaps.

Kamal Hardy moved into the starting cornerback spot opposite Da'Wan Hunte. Hardy got a handful of reps with the 1s on the first day, but Tim Cason got the bulk of the reps. It was a bigger dose of Hardy on Day 2.

• LB Sawyer Dawson was added to the pit late in practice with an apparent lower body injury. He went to the bike but wasn't pedaling.
