Rivals250 wide receiver visited Purdue for the second time this weekend

More ($): Saturday unofficial visitors

As Purdue hopes to finish off an outstanding wide receiver class for 2019, it hopes to get a start on another for 2020.

Part of that aim is the Boilermaker coaching staff's early efforts with Chicago Marist's Jadon Thompson, a four-star Rivals.com recruit ranked 148th nationally in the 2020 Rivals250.

Thompson was one of many high-priority targets in West Lafayette Saturday.

"The visit went really well," Thompson said. "The thing that stood out to me was just the coaching staff and getting a chance to hear the (current) players talk."

Thompson had visited Purdue prior, he said, and has gotten the impression he's a priority for its staff, in part because of his versatility as a receiver, he said.

"They're definitely one of my top schools right now," Thompson said.

Adding some measure of intrigue to Thompson's visit from a Purdue perspective is the fact that fellow Chicagoland Rivals250 prospect A.J. Henning also visited West Lafayette this weekend.

Thompson said he and Henning have considered playing college football together.

"We've been thinking about it for almost a year now," Thompson said.

Purdue would seem like one of the options for both, but there will be many, most likely.

Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa and Minnesota are some of the many others in addition to Purdue who've offered Thompson, who said he'll visit Illinois, too, in late January.

Henning lists offers already from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern and Illinois, among many others.

For both players, Purdue will likely continue on with the recruiting messaging that struck a chord in particular with the 2019 class.

"Basically anyone has a chance to play," Thompson said of Purdue's message to him this weekend. "No matter your grade."
