#10 — PURDUE BASEBALL'S IMPROBABLE RESURGENCE

Coming off a dreadful 2015-16 season that saw the Boilermakers go just 10-44 and only 2-22 in Big Ten action, leading to the departure of long-time coach Doug Schreiber, there was reason for expectations for Purdue baseball to be modest in Year 1 under new coach Mark Wasikowski.

Instead, the Boilermakers tied a Big Ten record for greatest improvement from one year to the next and qualified for the conference tournament, finishing the season 29-27 overall and 12-12 in the league, a surprising and sudden turnaround that might have represented the program finding solid footing again sooner than might have been considered possible.

In most any other year around Purdue, the sudden reversal of the Boilermakers' fortunes likely would have fallen much higher on a list like this, but this year was inordinately loaded with major storylines.
