Another big weekend for Purdue recruiting yielded even more results Tuesday, as Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards running back Destin Coates committed to the Boilermakers after visiting Saturday.

Th 5-foot-10, 180-pound Rivals.com three-star prospect picked Purdue over fellow finalists Indiana, UCF, Wake Forest and Baylor.

"I think Purdue got a steal," Coates said of himself Monday evening, "because I think I'm one of the best running backs in the country and I think I can show it at any level."

Coates said his visit to West Lafayette on Saturday convinced him to commit, but so did the efforts of Boilermaker running backs coach Chris Barclay.

"He really wanted me," Coates said. "He was talking to me pretty much every day telling me how much they wanted me there.

"They told me they think I'm one of a kind, that they got a steal."

As a junior at Rickards, Coates ran for more than 1,300 yards, caught passes for about 200 more, and totaled 19 touchdowns.

"I'm patient and have good vision," Coates said, "and I have power and good speed."

Coates joins fellow weekend commitment Clay Harris as running backs committed to the Boilermakers. The two running backs join wide receiver Jordan Bonner and defensive lineman/linebacker K.J. Stokes as those who've committed since Saturday, bringing Purdue's total to 19 commitments.
