ISU's pipeline in the trenches was dealt a blow on Monday afternoon when redshirt freshmen Brent and Wade Helton left the program with the intention of entering the transfer portal.
The twins, graduates of Corona (Calif.) Centennial High School, were each three-star prospects in the 2024 class and, while they didn't hit the field as true freshman, drew rave reviews from both head coach Matt Campbell and position coach Ryan Clanton during practices leading up to the Cheez-It Bowl and during the spring.
Brent and Wade were both three-star prospects with 5.6 Rivals Ratings and considered top-100 recruits in the state of California.
Arizona, Arizona State and California were the Power-4 programs to have offered both offensive linemen out of high school.
Iowa State is looking to replace starters at tackle and center going into the 2025 season, and the Helton twins were among the young interior linemen in the program being mentioned as possibilities to impact the depth chart this fall.
The twins' departure leaves the Cyclones with 15 scholarship players up front, although the coaching staff will likely be forced to revisit the transfer portal this spring to restock the pipeline.
