Thoughts following Purdue's 38-35 win over Arizona Wednesday in the Foster Farms Bowl.
• Just as we would have thought, right?
Anthony Mahoungou, a french receiver with little previous experience who few thought could ever have a big impact at Purdue, and Jacob Thieneman, who came to Purdue as a walk-on from a small Indiana catholic school, were the late-game heroes. And they helped deliver Purdue to a bowl victory.
Incredible really.
And a fitting end to a magical 2017 season, the first of the Jeff Brohm Era.
Just look at Mahoungou. An import a few seasons ago, after his one season of J.C., when he chose Purdue over Stony Brook. Stony Brook. He had a great first half Wednesday in Santa Clara, continuing his late-season run, then suffers drops, gets benched and comes back to make a play that will be long remembered, scoring the winning touchdown.
And Thieneman, who Purdue's former coaches barely paid attention to, gets the game-sealing interception. And that came after he had suffered a shoulder stinger earlier.
Hard-working guys. Purdue guys.
Plenty of kudos for everyone, on being 7-6 and reviving the program. This is good, and there's reason to think better is ahead.
