To help commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Purdue's magical turnaround 1997 season, GoldandBlack.com's staff will break up the rosters and select the best players to wear a Boilermaker uniform since Coach Joe Tiller's first season on the sidelines.
GoldandBlack.com's 20-year Purdue player draft will have 100 players chosen — two picks each weekday over 10 weeks. Boilermakers who were on Purdue rosters between 1997-2017 are eligible for selection. The draft order is Alan Karpick, Stacy Clardie, Kyle Charters and Brian Neubert, who's up now.
Draft ticker: Nos. 1-87
I'm down to my last spot to fill and while there are a number of solid safeties left on the board, I don't see a whole lot of separation among them, so I'm erring on the side of physicality with Justin Scott, the former junior college transfer who brought size and aggressive to Purdue's secondary in 2006 and 2007.
What stands out to me about Scott was he was that physical presence, but also a bit of a ballhawk, finishing his career with a half dozen interceptions in just two seasons, which is pretty impressive productivity.
They always say that it takes junior college players a year, typically, to get acclimated to a higher level of the sport, but Scott was productive right away. Not perfect, but productive, and we're to the point in this draft now where the perfect ship has sailed.
My defense is now complete and I like it.
